Off Farm Adventures

Discover Nashville, 2023~

Do your boots start scootin’ when you hear Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton or Vince Gill? If so, grab some  "friends in low places" and put Nashville, Tennessee, the Country Music Capital of the World on your bucket list!

What better way to explore this distinctive, historic destination downtown than the hop on hop off Trolley tour?  Grab some friends, and jump on the motorized trolley for a fun filled day of country music, great food, and even a whiskey tasting or two. We tried the Old Town Trolley Tour by day; thirteen stops access over 100 venues, including the can’t miss Country Music Hall of Fame. Old Town Trolley also offers a Live Music tour by night. Make sure to pack your jeans, boots and hat, you might be mistaken for a hot new rising star!

The Country Music Hall of Fame is central to Nashville's downtown~ Look for the giant arcing piano keyboard atop its roof! You can spend hours here, touring the galleries, viewing priceless artifacts, stage-wear, instruments and listening to one of a kind recordings, learning about America’s notable musical past, and the notorious musicians that created it! 20th century Country music evolved from working class blues and folk traditions. Did you know that Willie Nelson started playing guitar at age 6, and played and sang at Texas honky-tonks at age 9, as a way to make money so he didn't have to pick cotton? In 1961, he sold his breakout tune "Crazy" to Patsy Cline, named in 1991 the most- played jukebox hit of all time.

To learn about the life and music of another of Nashville’s favorite stars, stop by the Johnny Cash Museum, nominated for USA Today’s 2023 10 Best Travel Award. Johnny is known for hard-driving rockabilly hits and crooning ballads of the 1950's, 60's and 70's, delivered in a distinctive baritone. He often included prison stops on his tours, and hosted a television show with his wife June from 1969-1971.

Now that you know more about the nation’s amazing musical heritage, put some action to those tunes with live music and line dancing at the Wildhorse Saloon, a chic modern- meets -old -school brick fronted multi-storied space, fun for singles, couples or groups. Don’t know how to dance? They’ll teach you! After you work up an appetite, sample crispy fried pickles and pulled pork "sammys" washed down with Pitch Invasion, a crisp, pale local lager from Fat Bottom~ Look for the pony at 120 Second Avenue!

Your stay doesn’t have to be expensive~ Airbnb has some great offerings from 50-100 per night. . which means you saves up for that new pair of boots you’ve been eyeing!

Dearest Black Bear Friends,
"Madama Butterfly"

It has been my life long dream to be an Opera Buff. I contemplated taking the train to the Kennedy Center, to see Madama Butterfly, my all time most wanna see Opera, with my DC-based friend, Ana. Once we started talking Opera Wear, and it struck me that it would be lots more fun to invite two other mutual friends, Nurali and Judith, to join us, for a whole Lady Gaga-esque, gloves to the elbows fit out. But let's face it, farm friends, does Amtrak-ing three lovely ladies to DC for 30 dollar Opera nosebleeds make sense??Which took me to the Met schedule at the Lincoln . . . Ahh, the RING CYCLE . . . here is my subsequent e-post to Ana:
"Hi, sweetie~ Gotta say that the Lincoln Opera schedule is more compelling to me than the Kennedy:
HELLO NYC MET MIDWEEK 20 dollar tickets!! Zowie, love the NYC endowment inclined billionaire folk!
And Look!! ANNA BOLENA Fall 2011.......( Yes, I relate to the "queen driven insane by her unfaithful king"!!??) MADAMA BUTTERFLY next winter!  AND!!! RING CYCLE in 2012~~~~
Dear Ana, I am in near ecstasy with anticipation. Do you wanna think about the DC to NYC train ( it is a straight shot) 25 dollar opera and then come to Black Bear Farm for the weekend, so it is easier for Nurali and Judith to join us?? I will get your tix, (wow, i know, big 25 dollar bribe) since you have transpo, 25 dolla, fancy dresses, and "dinner before the opera" . . . WE ARE THERE!"
